Production Process

Karangpilang products experience the best production process before release to the market.

1. Mixing Ingredients
With our more than forty five years of expertise, Karangpilang Roof Tiles knows well the characteristics, the condition, and the methods of mixing and ageing many different types of clay and other raw materials to produce high quality clay roof tiles and bricks. We must blend the clay mix with some additives to strengthen the clay molecules during firing process for the strength (crack free) and the precision of the roof tile’s shape.

2. First Firing & Sorting
With high temperature above 1000°C, clay roof tiles and bricks in natural orange color are produced. There is approximately 3% to 5% product variation that we must sort (meets universal standard); therefore, only the ones that pass the selection can be installed safely (even without "underlayer") due to their perfection and precision in shape.

PAINT FINISH:
An additional coloring process (without reburning) can be applied with acrylic waterproof paint (last up to 5 years) or waterbase polymer paint (last up to 3 years).

3. Second Firing And Second Sorting
This step is needed to make an everlasting color and fungus free finishing. Glazing process is an application process of color pigment which must be fired in a high temperature more than 1000°C to produce such natural an everlasting colors that will not change forever and also fungus free. These very natural colors can only be produced by chemical reaction during burning process. The colors before and after burning always look different. The second sorting takes place to separate the variation.
